On June 18, Speer company from Idaho has announced the release of the second-generation JHP Gold Dot ammunition for short-barreled concealed carry pistols. The rounds are to be available in 9x19 mm (135 gran), .40 S&W (165 gran) and .45 ACP + P (200 gran) calibers.
The Gold Dot Carry Gun line is optimized for pistols such as Glock 43 or SIG P365. The rounds have been modified for reliable loading into the firing chamber by reducing the apical recess and filling it with elastomer. During the impact, the material is pressed into the projectile, causing it to expand, without the risk of being filled with clothing items that could have a negative effect on the ballistics of the target.
According to the manufacturer, the changes also positively affected the uniformity of the round's expansion in the target and the penetration of cover without the risk of excessive penetration that could harm bystanders. The rounds are encased in nickel-plated casings filled with reliable CCI primers.
