The and of Gen4 Glocks

Instead of producing fours, Glock is to focus on developing the fifth generation line with guns chambered for the .40 S&W high-pressure round. Interestingly, the third generation pistols, known for their reliability and absurdly long service life, will still be made. The Gen5 .40 is expected to hit store shelves in October 2020.

The enhancements made in the fifth generation are the nDLC metal surface finishing, which increases corrosion resistance and reduces the need for lubrication. The inlet of the magazine well has also been enlarged by using a built-in funnel to support magazine exchange. Another change is a new barrel under the proud name of Glock Marksman Barrel, which is supposed to provide increased accuracy. What does this translate to the pistol's performance? - it is not yet known.

A special change is the introduction of a double-sided slide stop, which is of great importance for left-handed shooters, who so far had to release the slide by pulling it to let the stop drop down. Many shooters were also pleasantly surprised by the removal of the foregrip nubs found on Gen3 and 4, which simply didn't fit all hand sizes.

The last mechanical enhancement are changes to the firing pin safety and the trigger spring, improving the working of the mechanism. The magazine base pads were also enlarged, which is to facilitate tearing them out in an event of a failure, as well as the cutout in the lower front part of the grip, present in Gen4 for the same reason, was removed as it may have caused discomfort during shooting.
