According to sources in the Czech Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian armed forces are in advanced talks with Suveren Small Arms Poland (SVRN) regarding the possible purchase of a batch of 5.56 mm assault rifles.
The Ukrainian army is said to want to acquire a batch of modern weapons chambered for a standard NATO intermediate cartridge (5.56x45 mm). The possibility of further licensed production of AR-15s in Ukraine, along with an ammunition production line, is also considered.
A possible deal that includes the first batch of AR-15s has an estimated value of around $ 2 million. It is not known which specific model from the SVRN offer is considered. The company based in Radom offers AR-15s in the same configuration with 10.5, 14.5, 16 and 18 inch long barrels. Sources say that the weight of the weapon is 3.26 kg, which suggests one of the longer variants with an 18-inch or even 20-inch barrel. The latter was offered by SVRN under the name PAC-15 Classic, in the form of an M16A4 clone with a classic transport handle and a polymer bed.
Civilian PAC-15 rifles are equipped with telescopic stocks and handguards with the M-Lok mounting system. The manipulators in the second generation of carbines are placed on both sides. The set includes folding iron sights and one magazine. Of course, the configuration of the kits for the Ukrainian armed forces is not known, nor will it the equivalent of the modern or the classic version of the PAC-15 (the given weight of the model suggests the latter). However, it will certainly differ from the civilian one, for example with the number of magazines supplied.
