On June 3, 2026, the Polish Public Procurement Bulletin published information regarding the procurement of shotguns by Military Unit No. 4101, based in Lubliniec, from Hubertus Pro Hunting. Interestingly, Military Unit 4101 is the oldest Polish special forces commando unit, having been established in 1961.
The contract covers the delivery of smoothbore shotguns, although the detailed technical specification remains confidential. As a result, the only publicly available information is that the procurement concerns smoothbore shotguns classified under CPV code 35321000-0 – Light firearms. The tender procedure was launched on January 20, 2026, and the available documentation indicates that the contracting authority was specifically seeking smoothbore shotguns. Hubertus Pro Hunting won the tender and, on May 8, 2026, signed two contracts — one worth PLN 16,752,924.72 and another valued at PLN 1,792,572.48. In total, the contract is worth approximately PLN 18.5 million.Hubertus Pro was the sole bidder for both lots.
This is not a contract for the entire Polish Armed Forces. Officially, the contracting authority is Military Unit 4101; however, the unit may have conducted the procurement on behalf of a wider group of end users. According to the published documentation, the contracting authority was seeking a supplier of smoothbore shotguns intended for both the Polish Armed Forces and the Military Police.
The procurement was divided into a guaranteed portion and an optional portion. The contracting authority reserved the right to exercise the option, allowing it to purchase additional quantities of shotguns. The estimated duration of the contract runs from May 30, 2026, to November 30, 2027, with the optional procurement period extending from January 1, 2027, to November 10, 2027. According to estimates published by other defense media outlets, the order may include approximately 1,500 shotguns, although this figure has not been officially disclosed in the published contract award notice.
The importance of smoothbore shotguns had already been recognized by the Polish Armament Agency, which first expressed its intention to acquire them in mid-July 2025. At that time, the Agency launched preliminary market consultations, including a declaration of its intention to purchase approximately 500 shotguns. The specifications published by the Agency called for 11", 14", and 18" barrels. The shotguns were also expected to feature, among other things, a pistol grip, a folding stock with a safety mechanism, a barrel heat shield, and a top Picatinny rail. It remains unknown whether these requirements are still in force or whether the shotguns supplied by Hubertus Pro will meet the same specifications. If they do, one likely candidate would be the Fabarm STF12.
According to unofficial information, these firearms were intended, among other roles, for units operating along Poland's eastern border, particularly in areas where so-called illegal migration routes were frequently encountered.
