Grenade launchers attached to rifles are a fairly common sight. Whether with firearms or in airsoft on replicas, they're nothing special. However, the opposite scenario, i.e., a rifle attached to a grenade launcher, is quite rare, and experimental designs such as the S&T Daewoo K11 DAW or XM29 OICW.
(The photo shows the XM29 OICW, a design combining a 20mm automatic grenade launcher and a 5.56mm underbarrel carbine)
While this idea was abandoned after some trials, an interesting, original project based on this concept has emerged in airsoft. The grenade launcher has been replaced with a more common design of a replica of the SRS sniper rifle, mounted on an AR-15 replica. The RGS Tyrant, as the author, Ryan S., named his work, is an HPA-powered system based on the SRS rifle replica from Silverback Airsoft and equipped with a Wolverine VSR 10 conversion kit. The lower part is a Wolverine MTW Billet replica with a Wolverine Reaper engine, but it is possible to use other AR-15 replicas and HPA engines (electric only, single-valve) or classic AEG replicas. The project goes a little deeper than it seems, as it is possible to fire both replicas using a single AR-15 trigger. Only after activating the switch located on the stock is it possible to fire the SRS replica and then use the AR-15 replica.
As the author himself admits, the idea behind the design was to enable faster switching between ranges without having to remove/change the replica. Depending on the configuration, the design weighs 5.4 kg (SRS A1, M4 AEG replica with HPA engine) or 7.4 kg (SRS A2, Wolverine MTW replica). It is not yet entirely clear whether this will be a one-off project or will appear in a more commercial release.
