Following a wave of calls for a change to the Polish Weapons and Ammunition Act, introducing mandatory periodic medical examinations, among other things, for holders of firearms permits for hunting purposes, the Polish Hunting Association has responded to public expectations and introduced annual, mandatory hunting safety training. According to the association, any hunter who fails such training will not be permitted to participate in hunting.
This move makes a lot of sense, as most (if not all) hunting accidents are not caused by hunters' poor health, but by blatant violations of hunting regulations and the general use of firearms. The introduction of such mandatory training, if carried out reliably, will have a greater impact on hunting safety than the proposed five-year medical examinations.
