The authorities of the state of Maryland, at the initiative of Democratic Governor Wes Moore, have introduced a ban on the manufacture, sale, purchase, and transfer of semi-automatic pistols designed in a way that allows easy conversion to fully automatic fire. The detailed provisions of the law indicate that the regulations are aimed primarily at Glock pistols and other models with a similar internal design. Violating the ban will be punishable by a fine of up to $5,000, up to three years in prison, or both penalties combined.
The new regulations are set to take effect on January 1, 2027. Active and retired law enforcement officers, among others, will be exempt from the ban. Individuals who legally own such pistols before the law comes into force will be allowed to keep them and transfer them to immediate family members, but they will not be permitted to sell them.

Governor Wes Moore
NRA has already filed a lawsuit against the new regulations. The organization sued Governor Wes Moore, Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown, and Acting State Police Superintendent Michael Jackson.
