1791 Industries has unveiled a new line of LiteRaider LRM4 receivers designed for rifles based on the AR-15/M4 platform. The primary goal of the American manufacturer was to reduce the overall weight of the components as much as possible without sacrificing the durability associated with standard receivers. The result is a lower receiver and an upper receiver made from the company's proprietary Metal Matrix Composite, which, according to the manufacturer, are approximately 33% lighter than conventional aluminum counterparts.
The defining feature of the LiteRaider LRM4 series is the use of the proprietary Metal Matrix Composite material. It consists of a metallic matrix reinforced with ceramic nanoparticles, designed to improve the mechanical properties of the entire structure. According to 1791 Industries, this manufacturing technology provides strength comparable to widely used 7075-T6 aerospace-grade aluminum while significantly reducing weight. The company also states that the composite offers greater resistance to high temperatures and dampens vibration generated during firearm operation more effectively than standard aluminum.
The new receivers maintain full Mil-Spec compatibility, allowing seamless use with the wide range of AR-15 platform components currently available on the market. As a result, users do not need to modify any other parts of their rifle to install the new receiver set. The innovation does not involve changes to the receiver geometry but instead relies on a new material that delivers a superior strength-to-weight ratio. Surface finishing also plays an important role in the design. The receivers are anodized and then coated with Cerakote, increasing their resistance to corrosion and wear. They are available in two color options: Black and Flat Dark Earth.
The weight reduction is reflected in the actual specifications. The stripped upper receiver, meaning without any internal components installed, weighs just approximately 136 g (4.8 oz), while the lower receiver weighs approximately 176 g (6.2 oz). The complete receiver set weighs around 312 g (11 oz), making it approximately 91 g (3.2 oz) lighter than a comparable aluminum set.
The new receivers are primarily intended for users seeking the lightest possible AR-15 configuration, whether for competition shooting or professional applications. However, the launch of the LiteRaider LRM4 receivers represents only part of the manufacturer's broader strategy for utilizing its new composite material. The company's lineup already includes handguards for AR-15/M4 and AK platforms, M-LOK-compatible Picatinny rail sections, and lightweight hand stop grips manufactured using the new Metal Matrix Composite technology.
