American company Samson Manufacturing introduced a new version of its modular chassis, the SAS/22 Takedown Chassis, for sale at the beginning of June this year. It was developed for the Ruger 10/22 Takedown semi-automatic rifle and is also compatible with most of its commercial clones. The new design replaces the rifle's factory stock, offering a folding buttstock, greater accessory mounting options, and more compact sizefor easier transport. The Ruger 10/22 Takedown owes its popularity primarily to the ability to quickly reduce the firearm's overall size. The rifle can be separated into two parts, namely the barrel assembly and the receiver with its action, meaning that the basic feature of the Ruger 10/22 Takedown has been retained. However, the new solution from the American manufacturer takes this concept a step further. The SAS/22 Takedown Chassis allows the buttstock to be folded to the side, reducing the overall length of the rifle by several additional centimeters.

Manufactured in the state of New Hampshire in the USA, the chassis is made from 6061-T6 aluminum and features a black anodized finish compliant with the military standard MIL-A-8625 Type III Class 2. It weighs approximately 1.13 kg. Compared with the factory Ruger stock, it is therefore somewhat heavier, but offers significantly greater rigidity and more configuration options. The most distinctive element of the design is the folding SAS-K buttstock. It not only allows the firearm to be folded for transport, but also provides adjustment of the length of pull and cheek rest height. The platform uses a Magpul MOE-K pistol grip, which can be replaced with most standard grips designed for the AR-15 platform, provided they do not feature a so-called "Beavertail," or enlarged rear portion.

The forend is approximately 26.7 cm long and features M-LOK mounting slots arranged across 5 surfaces, allowing users to freely attach a bipod, vertical grip, flashlight, or other accessories. On top, there is a 9-slot Picatinny top rail approximately 9.5 cm long, compliant with the MIL-STD-1913 standard and intended for mounting optical sights. The design also features ambidextrous mounting points for QD sling attachments.

According to Samson, a rifle equipped with a barrel approximately 40.6 cm long measures around 62 cm when the buttstock is folded. When unfolded, the overall length of the configuration ranges from 82.5 cm to 85 cm, depending on the buttstock configuration. Once the firearm has been separated into two parts, the chassis with the buttstock folded is only approximately 28 cm long, which makes transport even easier. The new chassis does not alter the operation of the rifle and retains its full functionality, focusing instead on improving ergonomics, increasing configuration options, and facilitating transport.
